The Leap: From Job Security to Entrepreneurship
Sean spent decades in the printing industry and at Harley-Davidson before deciding to pursue real estate full-time in 2019. A severance package gave him the runway to start flipping houses — but it took the encouragement of friends, family, and his realtor, Lance, to truly take the leap.
“I was nervous,” Sean admits. “I’d always had that steady paycheck. But with support from the people around me, I finally decided to go for it.”
Building a Business with Communication and Craftsmanship
From the beginning, Sean emphasized communication — a lesson he carried over from corporate life. By being present on job sites, maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, and insisting on quality control, he’s built a reputation for excellent work.
“I try to be there every day, even if I’m not swinging a hammer,” Sean says. “It’s about making sure the plan is followed and the quality is there before the work is finished.”
Lessons From the Field
Sean shared some valuable lessons for anyone considering real estate investing:
- Budget for the unknowns. He builds at least 10% contingency into every project.
- Do your due diligence. A sewer-scope mishap taught him the importance of using experienced professionals and double-checking assumptions.
- Choose crews carefully. Word-of-mouth referrals have been his best source for reliable tradesmen, but he stresses the importance of patience and persistence in finding the right team.
HGTV Recognition
Sean’s craftsmanship caught the eye of HGTV producers, who featured one of his projects on House Hunters. You can read more about that moment in our own story of his HGTV-featured flip project.
While the show didn’t highlight his company by name, it gave Sean and his family bragging rights — and affirmed that his work stands out.
Looking Ahead
Many Moore Properties has flipped more than 20 houses in just five years, and Sean plans to continue expanding his rental portfolio as he looks toward the future.
“I’m 54 now, so I don’t plan to work forever,” Sean reflects. “But I want to keep building a portfolio that will carry us into retirement. At the same time, I love what I do — and that makes it all worth it.”
Sean’s journey is a reminder that courage, conviction, and craftsmanship go a long way in real estate.
